Manor Farm

A carefully considered extension and renovation of a beautiful countryside farmhouse

Client:
Private Client

Location:
Maidwell, Northamptonshire

Sector:
Residential

This handsome manor farmhouse is located on the western fringe of the village of Maidwell and is bound by a stream which defines its eastern boundary with the benefit of a well-established vegetation belt screening it from adjacent properties and from the A508 beyond.

Over time, the property had lacked maintenance, therefore the client proposed to undertake a complete renovation in tandem with the alteration and extensions to safeguard the future integrity of the buildings.

The internal makeover and remodelling incorporated the creation of a sun lounge and enlarged breakfast kitchen with bedroom accommodation above. This connected to an annexed indoor swimming pool and detached garage with play room above.

All rooms were designed to take account of the many aspects and were positioned so as to respect the existing appearance and building forms on the site.

Careful selection of a limited palette of materials to compliment and match the original stonework fabric and feature brickwork detailing with a mix of slate and pantiles to match existing roof structures was fundamental to the finished project. The combined effect of the arrangement, volume, density and shape of the groups of buildings and individual buildings themselves is not only pleasing, but also relevant in relation to historical context of the former buildings and spaces.
